About The Club!

The Maroochy Aero Club was first formed in 1959 on a quiet grass airfield (which was subject to flooding) North of Maroochydore at the Sunshine Coast. The founding members ran dances, pageants and displays as well as offered training using cross-hired aircraft in order to bring in enough money to develop the club. Since then both the airfield (now airport) and the aero club have grown substantially, aided by contributions form many men and women who were united in the passion of flying over that time.

The club in the early years had an emphasis on training but in the present day is entirely a social club that provides aircraft to members for hire at the lowest possible rates.  Members may use club aircraft for private use and to further their flying training through one of the flying schools at Maroochy Airport.  Memberships are a mixture of social members and flying members. Being a flying member of the club is like owning shares of an aircraft with out having to incur the direct maintaince costs that go with ownership. 

At present the club has a membership base of around 130 financial members and has excellent facilities in the form of a top class clubroom and commercial kitchen, attractive gardens and well-finished concrete car park, large clean hanger and 2 immaculate aircraft.

Activities include Friday Night dinners, annual functions, fly-aways, members meetings and the annual Sunshine Coast Air Rally.

The Maroochy Aero Club also caters for other clubs fly-ins and can organise function rooms for presentation nights etc.

The club, in conjunction with a software company has developed an aircraft booking and accounting software system, which is for sale to other interested clubs.  This system is great in the way that it allows any current flying member to book aircraft at any time without having to contact the booking officer.

The Maroochy Aero Club is proof that if you get a few people with a common goal and pulling in the same direction, remarkable things can be achieved.
